Pedigree

d’Azanté’s natural athleticism and talent has not come to him by chance. His bloodlines are robust and versatile, with the strong influences of 2 of the world’s most prominent Show Jumping and Dressage breeding stallions: Donnerhall and Ramiro. d’Azanté’s sire, Dunhill (Donnerhall/Landknecht I) is proving to be a successful FEI dressage competitor in Europe. d’Azanté’s dam, Feuerspiel-A** (Rio Negro/Wolfschatz) is by Rio Negro. Rio Negro was ridden by and ridden to Grand Prix by Willi Schulteiss and was by the famous Holsteiner stallion, Ramiro.

CWHBA Licensing and Performance Test Results

Licensing

d'Azanté successfully completed the Licensing portion of his CWHBA approval process in September, 2003. Comments from the Panel summed him up as follows: “Very elegant young stallion. Light on his feet. A modern type, with good conformation, especially the head and neck. Three excellent gaits, with a wonderful gallop.”

d'Azanté entered into the CWHBA Approval process as a “dressage specialist”. He is one of the only stallions to successfully complete the CWHBA Stallion Approval process with this designation. It allowed him to have lowered height expectations in the jumping portions of the test in exchange at a penalty for each jumping mark. He proved himself to be a more than capable and impressive jumper regardless, but given his strict dressage background and extremely limited exposure to jumping both free and under saddle, it was decided that the dressage specialist route was in his best interests.

The following is a COMPLETE list of d'Azanté's CWHBA Licensing marks. He has strong marks throughout the entire scoresheet, which is indicative of his superior conformation:

Stallion Performance Test

d'Azanté brilliantly completed the Canadian Warmblood Stallion Performance Test (SPT) in 2004, and was crowned Champion. The SPT is a week long, intensive evaluation throughout which time horses are evaluated, and at the end of which the panel of international judges grade the stallions on their: interior qualities ( temperament, character, constitution, willingness to work); gaits under saddle (both individually, walk/trot/canter, and comparatively in a group, walk/trot/canter), rideability (both by test riders and by the judging committee based on performances throughout the week with their trainers), jumping under saddle, and free jumping. d'Azanté, again, given his dressage training background and coincidental limited exposure to jumping, was entered as a “dressage specialist”, which alike in the licensing with the free jumping portion, the jumping expectations were set slightly lower in exchange for a grade reduction over fences.

d'Azanté received the highest marks of all the stallions in the SPT for his Interior Characteristics, his Gaits (both group and individually), and his rideability (both on the flat and over fences, both the judges and the test riders agreed on his rideability). Competition Results

d'Azanté was imported from Germany by Grandview Equestrian Farm as a 2 year old; he was purchased as an FEI dressage prospect, and was left a stallion because of his excellent temperament, and of course, his superior quality. He now has 3 years of competition under his belt with his partner, Ashley, and proven himself as a top quality, consistent performer in the ring and a favourite with the judges.

In 2004, d'Azanté and Ashley competed at 2 nd level, winning many of classes a Championships throughout Canada and the US with scores into the 70%s. In 2003, he competed at the FEI 5 year old level, winning all 8 of the classes in which he competed, with scores in the 80%s. In 2002, at the age of 4, he competed at the Basic 1 and 2 level, scoring consistently into the 70%s and was Champion in every show he was in. He has established himself as a top competitor in the ring with a bright future at the FEI level. He has proven himself year after year as a true talent in the ring and day-to-day as a willing, rideable partner.

FEI Judge and Top International Trainer, Wolfgang Michaelis, remarks that d'Azanté is: “a very compact stallion with perfect manner and rideability. He has a very nice character, is easy to ride and willing to work.”
